If you have the cash available then get a web site! Even if you're not making money with it for awhile it will be a major part of your learning and will introduce you to concepts that will begin to make you savvy.
Make sure to remember cost of living, savings and benefits suggestions. This will make your life alot easier and will usually get you you kind of success alot earlier. Take it from a guy who went the hard way at first!

Freelance Networks
Let me say that I've tried a couple freelance networks without success. I do know for a fact that there are people who make good money on freelance networks. I have no real experience with the network below. I believe they offer writing and other freelance jobs but there is a cost. If someone tries this please let me know how it goes.

Search engine optimization is very important to those wanting to make money with their own web site. There is alot of mis-information out there and some "SEO secrets" can get you into trouble. SeoBook is one of the few companies I've come to highly respect regarding SEO. They offer a subscription service that will supercharge your SEO education.
If you don't have the cash then sign up for their free newsletter...actually do that even if you do have the cash. The newsletter is awesome and having a free account comes with a ton of high quality keyword research and SEO tools.
