Lately I’ve been having a time with out dated software. Several servers I’ve had to do work on were running MySQL 3.23 or 4.0. In most cases I didn’t have shell access to rectify this and in a couple cases I actually had to rewrite queries to get the job done and out of my hair.
The difference between MySQL 4.0 and 4.1 is actually substantial. I wish hosting providers would at least get things that far. I have no clue why a web host would even make 3.23 available. Compared to newer MySQL versions it’s not near as efficient. You would think they were concerned about hogging processor and RAM. Maybe the point is that it’s so old that people won’t use it therefore conserving the resources?
I would say if you’re a hosting provider then make my life easier by keeping your software up to date.
